The Institute of Climate-Smart Agriculture of the Johann Heinrich von Thünen-Institute, Federal Research Institute for Rural Areas, Forestry and Fisheries, in Braunschweig is looking for a unlimited full-time position (currently 39 hours/week) for a technician (f/m/d) to work on the aera of Integrated Carbon Observation System (ICOS).
The Thünen Institute of Climate-Smart Agriculture conducts long-term observations of the biosphere-atmosphere exchange of greenhouse gases and air pollutants at several locations and different land-use types. This requires research and technical development within the framework of the Integrated Carbon Observation System (ICOS). The focus of the activities will be on the Gebesee agricultural site (DE-Geb), where field measurements have been conducted over many years to determine carbon balances and to investigate its trends and driving factors. The work will include the application of established methodology using standardized protocols, as well as the opportunity for further technical developments.
The position is located at the Thünen Institute of Climate-Smart Agriculture in a working group that is involved in national and international research on micrometeorological measurements of climate- and environmentally relevant trace gas fluxes. Current research activities focus on further developments in the field of micrometeorological measurement techniques and data analyses on the drivers of trace gas exchange. In this context, Thünen Institute cooperates with various universities and research centers as well as state and federal institutes.

- Design, installation, and maintenance of permanent monitoring stations for the long-term observation of greenhouse gases and climatic parameters
- Development and installation of data acquisition and remote data transmission systems
- Organization and implementation of field campaigns for the monitoring of vegetation parameters
- Documentation according to ICOS protocol standards
- Data backup and quality control
- Component research and ordering
- Support for other working group projects
Your Profil:Your Profil:
- technical college degree as a state-certified technician in the field of mechatronics, electrical engineering, process engineering, mechanical engineering, environmental technology, or comparable qualification
- several years of professional experience in the application and optimization of scientific measuring instruments
- Knowledge of meteorological measurement technology and experience in independently setting up measuring stations, including data loggers, in the field under difficult logistical conditions
- Experience in setting up and operating measuring stations, including modifying/further developing eddy covariance and chamber measurements, including weather stations, is advantageous
- good English skills; knowledge of German is advantageous, but not mandatory; the candidate should have the willingness to learn German
- a driver's license is mandatory
- strong organizational and communication skills
- willingness and aptitude for occasional multi-day field campaigns
- strong interest in methodological and technical development work
