
Research Assistant in the field of agricultural sciences (f/m/d)
The Institute for Market Analysis at the Johann Heinrich von Thünen Institute, Federal Research Institute for Rural Areas, Forests, and Fisheries, located in Braunschweig, is seeking, effective November 1, 2026, for a fixed term through October 31, 2027, a full-time (currently 39 hours/week) research assistant in the field of agricultural sciences with a focus on agricultural economics (f/m/d) to provide additional support for project tasks as part of the “BrightSpace” project.
The Horizon Europe project “BrightSpace” is a collaborative project involving 14 partners and aims to develop effective and sustainable strategies that enable EU agriculture to operate within a Safe and Just Operating Space (SJOS) despite numerous challenges.
The Institute for Market Analysis is specifically involved in establishing a BrightSpace stakeholder platform to incorporate the expertise of experts and stakeholders in all phases of the project, as well as in developing projections (using the partial agricultural market model AGMEMOD).
The employment relationship is governed by the TVöD Bund collective agreement and, provided the collective agreement and personal requirements are met, is remunerated according to pay grade 13 of the TVöD Bund - which corresponds to an annual salary of 62.489,15 € bis 89.579,84 € for full-time employment.
Your TasksYour Tasks
- Compilation of data on the production and use of animal feed (including balances and prices) at the EU member state level, broken down by animal category and production system, as well as analysis of this data (primarily for dairy cows and beef cattle production)
- Contributing to the further development of the partial agricultural market model
AGMEMOD (modeling feed demand, impact of feed prices on livestock production) - Collaborating on project tasks, including the preparation of project reports
- Preparation and presentation of results in German and English
Your ProfilYour Profil
Your professional profil:
- completed university degree (university diploma, M. Sc.) in agricultural sciences with a focus on agricultural economics, animal husbandry, or a comparable discipline
- Knowledge of the economics of animal production in the EU, feed markets, and animal nutrition is a plus
- Knowledge and experience in the application of quantitative methods (including the analysis of quantitative datasets) are a plus
- Knowledge of modeling approaches and experience with applied economic modeling are a plus

- Ability to analyze complex issues
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a results-oriented manner
- Ability to present information to different audiences both in writing and orally
